Project: The YJA Mentorship program
Purpose:
The Jain community is fortunate to have so many successful professionals and well established leaders. The Jain mentorship program will allow youth across the country a chance to interface and learn from these amazing individuals. For example, if a Jain high school student is interested in becoming a lawyer, he or she could look to the YJA mentorship program to meet established lawyers in our community while making a choice about his or her career path. The Mentorship program will also serve to build positive relationships across age ranges in the Jain community.
Description:
The YJA Mentorship program will be similar to community programs such as big brother, except that communication will be done virtually instead of in person. Youth looking to joining the YJA Mentorship program will be given the opportunity to contact professionals in various career fields about any questions or concerns they may be running into.
The success of the YJA mentorship program is dependent on the willing participation of professionals in our community. A strong push will be made by members of this project to at least locate 4 distinguished Jains in fields such as computers, engineering, law, medical, business, etc…
Next, Each Mentor will pair up with a certain amount of youth and communicate with them over e-mail or the phone at least once a month. Depending on the success similar programs can be begun in large Jain Centers.
