Event Description

Young Jains of America presents the 12th Annual Mid-Atlantic Winter Retreat 2018 - a weekend of exploring the Jain Way of Life and connecting with old and new friends alike. The retreat will take place from Saturday, February 17th through Monday, February 19th, 2018 at the Best Western Genetti Hotel and Conference Center in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

You must be between 14-29 years old to attend this retreat.

Note: Snow tubing and skiing will take place on Sunday, February 18th at the Montage Mountain Ski Resort.

Registration

Registration fees begin at $130 for Phase 1 for all participants plus skiing/snowboarding or snow tubing add-ons and $140 for Phase 2. Your registration fee includes lodging, meals, educational materials, and souvenirs for the three-day retreat. Also included is a region t-shirt!

Unsubsidized Registration

To provide each attendee with accommodations, meals, and the opportunity to attend sessions and participate in activities, the actual total cost per person is well over the registration cost. YJA works very hard in fundraising during the year to help subsidize each attendee's cost of attendance. We would greatly appreciate it if you could help YJA by choosing the Unsubsidized pricing option at the time of payment. This would help us raise the money we need to ensure YJA remains affordable for as many potential attendees as possible.

Financial Assistance

For those that would like to attend but are in need of financial assistance, please download this Financial Assistance Form, fill it out, and email it to the YJA Co-Chairs at chairs@yja.org. Financial assistance is limited and will be awarded on a first-come first-serve basis until our allocation of funds is exhausted.

Transportation

We will do our best to arrange carpooling from your city to the retreat location. If there are logistical or financial issues, contact your Regional Coordinator, Mansi Shah, at midatlantic@yja.org. We are more than happy to help!

Liability Policy

Every attendee must arrive at the retreat with a signed liability form. If a retreat attendee does not have a signed liability form, they will not be able to participate in retreat activities. For YJA members between the ages of 14 and 17, the liability form can be found here. For YJA members between the ages of 18 and 29, the liability form can be found here.

Safety Policy

This is the Mid-Atlantic Retreat. The retreat is an intimate environment where attendees will have an opportunity to learn about Jain values, meet old friends, and make new ones. YJA wants to ensure that everyone has a great time.

There are a few basic but important ground rules that all attendees are expected to follow:

  1. Please be respectful of other attendees in your speech and actions. Any inappropriate comments or language will not be tolerated.

  2. There is a strict policy against alcohol consumption.

  3. Those who are reported to have acted inappropriately or to have significantly impacted others’ retreat experiences in a negative way will be subject to consequences at the discretion of the Regional Coordinator and other members of YJA Board present at the retreat.

  4. All attendees will read and sign the appropriate liability form before the start of the retreat.

We want to state the boundaries of the event clearly to ensure that everyone learns, grows, is respected, and has fun! If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to email midatlantic@yja.org.

FAQS

How long are we going to be in sessions?

Most sessions will be between 60 and 90 minutes long. There will be ample time in between sessions for snack and restroom breaks. 

What if I have to leave during the retreat?

To ensure attendee safety, we ask everyone to remain on the premises for the duration of the retreat unless authorized to do so by the YJA Executive Board. Please contact midatlantic@yja.org with any questions.

What kind of clothes do I need to bring?

Well, it is February, so don’t forget your winter coats! Hats, gloves, socks, and the works are important for the outdoors. Keep in mind that we’ll be doing yoga, outdoor activities, and playing games late at night, so bring comfortable shoes and clothing for these activities. Otherwise, it’s up to you, but just remember to keep your clothes appropriate for a YJA retreat.

What does the registration cost cover?

The registration cost includes lodging, food, educational materials, and t-shirt. Each attendee is responsible for additional charges such as transportation.

Will I need to bring extra spending money?

You won't be needing any money at the retreat itself, but we recommend bringing extra money for gas.

Will there be any doctors on site?

There will not be any doctors on site, but safety is a priority and basic first aid supplies will be available. If anything goes wrong, medical attention is only a few minutes away.

Cancellation Policy

If we receive your cancellation while the registration period for the retreat is still open (until February 3rd, 2018), you will receive a 50% refund of the registration fee.

After February 3rd, 2018, refunds will only be granted on a case-by-case basis under extremely extenuating circumstances. If you wish to cancel your registration or have questions about the retreat, please email midatlantic@yja.org.
