Event Description

Jai Jinendra, Mid-West! Missing all of the #MidBest friends you've made throughout the year? Catchin' FOMO from all the amazing pictures from the last retreat? Don't worry, we've got you covered. Back by popular demand, Young Jains of America presents Mid-West Summertime Retreat 2019 - a weekend of thought-provoking sessions, fun-filled activities, and delicious meals in Indiana Dunes, IN. The retreat will begin at 5:00 PM on Friday, July 26, and it will end at 7:00 PM on Saturday, July 27.

You must be between 14-29 years old to attend this retreat. (A photo ID will be required for check-in).

Registration fees begin at $70 during Phase 1 and $75 during Phase 2. Your registration fee includes accommodations, meals, parking, and access to all sessions and activities for the weekend. Any extra transportation fees are not included.

 Dates  Registration Phase  Cost
7/09 - 7/16         Phase 1                            $70
7/17 - 7/23  Phase 2  $75
7/09 - 7/23  Unsubsidized*  $80

(*)Unsubsidized Registration

To provide each attendee with accommodations, meals, and the opportunity to attend sessions and participate in activities, the actual total cost per person is well over the registration cost. YJA works very hard in fundraising during the year to help subsidize each attendee's cost of attendance. We would greatly appreciate it if you could help YJA by choosing the Unsubsidized pricing option at the time of payment. This would help us raise the money we need to ensure YJA remains affordable for as many potential attendees as possible.

Financial Assistance

For those that would like to attend but are in need of financial assistance, please download this Financial Assistance Form, fill it out, and email it to the YJA Co-Chairs at chairs@yja.org. Financial assistance is limited and will be awarded on a first-come first-serve basis until our allocation of funds is exhausted.

We are planning to arrange a carpool to and from the venue from different areas in the Mid-West region. More details on this will be available once registration has ended. Email Janvi Shah at midwest@yja.org if you have any questions.

Safety Policy

This is the Mid-West Retreat. The retreat is an intimate environment where attendees will have an opportunity to learn about Jain values, meet old friends, and make new ones. YJA wants to ensure that everyone has a great time.

There are a few basic but important ground rules that all attendees are expected to follow:

  1. Please be respectful of other attendees in your speech and actions. Any inappropriate comments or language will not be tolerated.

  2. There is a strict policy against alcohol consumption.

  3. Those who are reported to have acted inappropriately or to have significantly impacted others’ retreat experiences in a negative way will be subject to consequences at the discretion of the Regional Coordinator and other members of YJA Board present at the retreat.

  4. All attendees will read and sign the appropriate liability form before the start of the retreat.

We want to state the boundaries of the event clearly to ensure that everyone learns, grows, is respected, and has fun! If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to email midwest@yja.org.

Where will be staying at during the retreat?

We will be staying at the Comfort Inn & Suites (1400 US Hwy 20, Porter, IN 46304).

How long are we going to be in sessions?

Most sessions will be between 60 and 90 minutes long. There will be ample time in between sessions for snack and restroom breaks. Since this is a one-night event, we will have 2 engaging sessions.

What if I have to leave during the retreat?

To ensure attendee safety, we ask everyone to remain on the premises for the duration of the retreat unless authorized to do so by the YJA Executive Board. Please contact midwest@yja.org with any questions.

What kind of clothes do I need to bring?

Well, it is July, so don’t forget your sunscreen! Sunglasses, shorts, caps, and the works are all important for the outdoors. Keep in mind that we’ll be doing indoor activities, going to the park, and playing games late at night, so bring comfortable shoes and clothing for these activities. Otherwise, it’s up to you, but just remember to keep your clothes appropriate for a YJA retreat.

What does the registration cost cover?

The registration cost includes lodging, food, and the fee for Indiana Dunes parking. Each attendee is responsible for additional charges such as transportation and Saturday dinner on the way back home from retreat.

Will I need to bring extra spending money?

You won't be needing any money at the retreat itself, but we recommend bringing extra money for gas. Saturday dinner will not be covered by YJA.

Will there be any doctors on site?

There will not be any doctors on site, but safety is a priority and basic first aid supplies will be available. If anything goes wrong, medical attention is only a few minutes away.

Cancellation Policy

If we receive your cancellation while the registration period for the retreat is still open (until 7/23), you will receive a 50% refund of the registration fee.

After July 23rd, refunds will only be granted on a case-by-case basis under extremely extenuating circumstances. If you wish to cancel your registration or have questions about the retreat, please email midwest@yja.org.
