Event Description

West Coast Best Coast! You might remember that we had a retreat in March, and that this retreat was fantastic. You might also remember being really sad when the retreat was over, because it meant you had to say goodbye to an amazing weekend of memories. Well, enough of you remembered all this that we decided to host a camping retreat this year! Young Jains of America presents the YJA Summerfest - California Camping Mini-Retreat - a night of exploring the connection between the mind, body, and soul, in Sanger, California. The retreat will be taking place from Saturday, July 29th at 3PM through Sunday, July 30th, 2017 at 12 PM.

You must be between 14-29 years old at the start of the retreat to attend (A photo ID will be required for check-in).

Your registration fee includes accommodations, dinner on Saturday, breakfast on Sunday, and snacks.

DatesRegistration PhaseCost
7/11 - 7/23 Phase 1 $20
Unsubsidized $25

Unsubsidized Registration

YJA works very hard in fundraising during the year to help subsidize each attendee's cost of attendance. We would greatly appreciate it if you could help YJA by choosing the "Unsubsidized" pricing option at the time of payment. This would help us raise the money we need to ensure YJA remains affordable for as many potential attendees as possible.

Transportation

Transportation to this location will not be provided - however, we will connect you with other attendees coming from your area to organize carpooling to the retreat and back. Please email Rea Savla at west@yja.org if you have any questions.

Safety Policy

This is the West Mini-Retreat. The camping retreat is an intimate environment where attendees will have an opportunity to learn about Jain values, meet old friends, and meet new ones. YJA wants to ensure that everyone has a great time.

There are a few basic but important ground rules that all attendees are expected to follow:

  • Please be respectful of other attendees in your speech and actions. Any inappropriate comments or language twill not be tolerated.
  • There is a strict policy against alcohol consumption.
  • Those who are reported to have acted inappropriately or to have significantly impacted others' retreat experiences in a negative way will be subject to consequences at the discretion of the Regional Coordinator and other members of YJA Board present at the retreat.
  • All attendees will read and sign the appropriate liability form before the start of the retreat.

We want to state the boundaries of the event clearly to ensure that everyone learns, grows, is respected, and has fun! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email west@yja.org.

FAQs

The camping retreat will have only 1 session of about 1 hour.

To ensure attendee safety, we ask everyone to remain on the premises for the duration of the retreat unless authorized to do so by the YJA Executive Board. Please contact west@yja.org with any questions.

Since it is July, it will be hot! Wear clothing and shoes comfortable for camping and hiking, and bring sunscreen. However, it will get in the 60s in the evening and at night so be sure to bring clothes in which you will be warm enough overnight. Additionally, please remember to keep your clothes appropriate for a YJA retreat.

The registration cost includes lodging, food, and snacks. The cost does not cover transportation.

You won't be needing any money at the retreat itself, but we recommend bringing extra money for gas, and a small amount of spending cash for food as you are traveling to and from retreat. In addition, you will be provided food for Saturday evening and Sunday breakfast, but bring money if you wish to buy additional food/beverages at the campsite.

There will not be any doctors on site, but safety is a priority and basic first aid supplies will be available. If anything goes wrong, medical attention is only a few minutes away.

Cancellation Policy

If we receive your cancellation while the registration period for the retreat is still open (until July 23rd, 2017), you will receive a 50% refund of the registration fee. After July 23rd, refunds will only be granted on a case-by-case basis under extremely extenuating circumstances. If you wish to cancel your registration or have questions about the retreat, please email reghelp@yja.org.
